Simply contact us via the contact form on this website, email us at info@imdtranslation.co.uk, or call us on 0330 912 1530.
We can give a rough estimation via phone, but for an accurate formal quotation we request you share the document(s) for translation, or information for interpretation, with us via email or website contact form.
What payment methods do you accept?
As a primarily B2B operation, we operate on standard 14 day payment terms where payment is made by bank transfer.
For private individual clients we reserve the right to vary payment terms at our discretion, for example to full or part advance payment – in all instances any variation to standard terms will be communicated in advance.
We accept payment via bank transfer as specified on invoice. We cannot facilitate over the phone payments, and do not accept payment by cheque.
How much does a translation cost?
Exclusive of VAT, translation costs start at £0.12/word and may increase depending on multiple factors such as language pair, specialism/practice area, number of words, file type, source quality etc.
For smaller jobs a minimum charge of £65 (excl.VAT) will be applicable. In all cases we will provide you with an accurate quote for your consideration and approval before commencing with a translation.
If your case is requiring translation and is subject to Legal Aid, please discuss with our team.
Interpreting is priced based on several factors, including: language pair, specialism/practice area, in-person or remote (+linguist travel costs if in-person), date and time required, length of time required etc. Pricing is given either per hour, per half day, or per full day as appropriate.
Note a minimum charge of three consecutive hours is applicable in all instances, even if the booking is for a shorter timeframe. In all cases you will be issued with a formal quotation for consideration.
As of 2024, we are no longer able to offer interpreting services at legal aid rates.
If you have a document for translation, simply upload via the contact form on this website or email them to us at info@imdtranslation.co.uk after which we will get back to you with any queries and a formal quotation for your consideration.
If you wish to forward documents via another medium, please discuss with our staff and we will do what we can to accommodate.
How long does translation take?
How long is a piece of string? (Answer: double half its length!)
Turn around time will vary based on the volume of words that need translating, the rarity of the language pair required, and their particular specialism; for instance a single page birth certificate French to English will take much less time than a several dozen page medical report from English to Icelandic.
In general, a good rule of thumb is that on average a single translator can translate between two thousand to two and a half thousand words per day.
Do you offer 24 hour turn around?
Turn around time will vary based on the volume of words that need translating, the rarity of the language pair required, and their particular specialism; for instance a single page birth certificate French to English will take much less time than a several dozen page medical report from English to Icelandic.
In general, a good rule of thumb is that on average a single translator can translate between two thousand to two and a half thousand words per day.
If a go-ahead is given on the translation of a marriage certificate at 9am on a morning, chances are it will be back with you within a working day or so depending on the file quality and language pair required; however, if you would like 177 pages translated before breakfast the next day, well, we’ll let you figure that one out…
If you don’t require project management assistance (i.e. you don’t want or need to talk to a member of our team about your requirements) and are happy to place a direct order online, turn around times are a bit quicker via our online translation order platform; however, orders placed through this system are offered on an ‘as is’ basis, and are best suited for editable file types (i.e. not scans or images). Access this platform by clicking here
What languages do you offer?
Quite a lot! Check out our languages page for a non-exhaustive list. If you don’t see what you need, get in touch with us directly to discuss!
Do you offer legal aid rates?
Due to the current commercial unviability of legal aid rate we are unable to guarantee that we can accommodate in all instances.
We are currently only able to offer translation at legal aid rates under specific circumstances – should you have such a requirement, please liaise with our team to understand if your case is one we may be able to assist with.
In every instance the requirement for legal aid rates must be flagged at point of requesting a quote. Our normal payment conditions apply even if legal aid rates are requested.
All of our translations and transcriptions come with our company certification as standard.

What does your company standard certification include?
All of our translations and transcriptions come with our company certification as standard.
Standard certification is in line with gov.uk requirements: states that it is an accurate translation, the date of delivery, contact details of our office, name of contact person at our firm, the language(s) translated to and from, our internal ID number for the linguist(s) that performed the translation, the name of the client firm and contact person, and our ATC (Association of Translation Companies) membership number.
Depending on the intended usage of your document, for example if it is for use in a particular foreign jurisdiction, you may require notarisation, a sworn translation, or a different specification of certification – if you are unsure, always check exact requirements with the requesting authority.
Will my translation be accepted by court?
All of our translations and transcriptions come with our company certification as standard.
Depending on the intended usage of your document – for example, if for use in a particular foreign jurisdiction – you may require a different kind of certification, such as a sworn translation or notarisation.
If for use in the family courts, you will need a statement from the translating linguist, please flag this requirement to us at the outset and we would be happy to facilitate.
In all cases, we strongly recommend confirming with the end user what, if any, kind of certification is required.
What is a sworn translation?
A sworn translation system doesn’t exist in the UK; however, some foreign jurisdictions, such as Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands and some others, require translations to be performed by a ‘sworn translator’, the exact definition and process of what this is varies slightly dependent on country/jurisdiction, but most often means a linguist who is registered with a particular court or government ministry.
We are able to facilitate sworn translation for use in most jurisdictions, but please note sworn translations do attract an additional surcharge.
If you believe you may require a sworn translation we strongly recommend in the first instance confirming this requirement with the intended end user/institution/requesting authority.
Are your translators all qualified?
